About Us
Welcome to the Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club Website. The club was founded in 1965 following the first Summit Metro Parks Fall Hiking Spree as a way for people to continue hiking and enjoying the various parks.
The club schedules hikes throughout Summit County, including trails in all the Metro Parks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, neighborhoods in and around Akron, other local parks and nature preserves and the Hike and Bike Trail.
Our minimum mileage for most hikes is 5 miles; however occasionally we offer 3 mile leisure hikes and 7 mile or longer treks. We also offer social events during the year including a club picnic in the summer and our annual soup/chili hike every February.
In celebration of our 50th anniversary in 2015 we sponsored a park bench along the Piney Woods trail in Goodyear Heights Metro Park.
We also schedule two multi-day hiking trips outside the area to other parts of Ohio and neighboring states.
If you are interested in joining our group for exercise and a chance to walk with others who love hiking, please contact Diane Lybarger @ 330-733-8840. After your first hike as a guest, you are welcome to join the club for an annual membership fee of $10 for singles or $15 for families.
Feel free to download our current month's hiking schedule, and join us on the trails!
